Scorch and rust

The best shot I could get of the interior of the 74" Reflector at Mt. Stromlo observatory, Canberra. I did ask my supervisor if I could get access inside for a couple of photos, but apparently it's really unsafe, toxic residue, possible falling objects, all that stuff.

You can see the telescope itself on the left side, scorched beyond repair, as well as the dome and old console rooms in a similar condition. They've repaired the outside to at least give the appearance that the telescope is still functional, but inside, it's just left to rust and collect dust. The telescope was destroyed beyond repair in the firestorms of January 2003.
